Careers in Statistics

Part-time and summer work

This page includes resources for finding full-time employment after graduation. For part-time or summer work, consider looking at the student employment website. Be sure to check the terms of your support and your visa before seeking employment while you are a student.

Government work

Most government listings are not posted in standard job databases.  See our guide to careers in government.

UChicagoGRAD and Career Advancement both serve to promote graduate students and alumni in their academic and post-graduation careers. UChicagoGRAD offers a variety of career development services such as advice on writing a cover letter, negotiating a salary, and interviewing techniques. Nathan Hardy is the main PSD contact; he is always happy to meet with students from Statistics. Students can schedule one-on-one meetings with Nathan through GRAD Gargoyle, as well as search the GRAD Gargoyle jobs board, submit job documents, integrate LinkedIn accounts, and more.

Career Advancement similarly provides a number of resources for students and alumni seeking to further their careers, the most important of which is UChicago Handshake, the university's new hub for job and internship listings, career fair registration, scheduling information sessions, and more. Users can tailor their Handshake profile to alert them to opportunities in certain fields, in certain locales, etc.

Some employers contact our department or individual faculty members directly; we pass such leads on to the StatJobs listhost. The archive includes all past listings.

To supplement UChicago’s resources, below is a list of other job databases that are of interest to our graduates. There is some overlap between categories.
