Research

General:

  • Numerical Optimization.
  • Uncertainty Quantification.
  • Computational Statistics.
  • Computational Science.
  • Numerical Analysis.
  • Applied Mathematics.

Specific:

  • I lead the Multifaceted Mathematics for Rare, High-Impact Events in Complex Energy and Environment Systems (MACSER) project (https://www.mcs.anl.gov/MACSER) which aims to carry out research in applied mathematics applied to decisions under uncertainty when exposed to rare, high impact events. The project involves UC in addition to 6 other institutions (I represent ANL though).
  • I lead the Argonne site and Multiperiod Optimization Effort for the ExaSGD: Optimizing Stochastic Grid Dynamics at Exascale https://www.exascaleproject.org/research-project/exasgd/  This is part of DOE’s Exascale project which researches applied math and computer science for applications that will run on the nation's first exascale machine.
