DEADLINES

  • Diagnostic Exam
    Students will be emailed the exam starting September 15. All new students must complete the take-home diagnostic exam and email it to their faculty advisor by Friday, September 20. Your advisor will need time to review your exam before approving your course registration. If you cannot find your advisor, email your exam to Keisha Prowoznik at kprowoznik@uchicago.edu.
    Required for: all new students
  • Course Registration
    New and returning students should meet with advisors, register online, and email advisor-approved registration forms to Keisha Prowoznik no later than Friday, September 26, at noon.

  • Online Orientation for International Students

Events

Wednesday, September 17

  • Incoming international students are invited to attend an international student orientation hosted by the Office of International Affairs (OIA). This orientation is not required but may be a helpful resource for incoming international students. OIA will cover a variety of topics including a general overview of OIA services, important reminders, information about maintaining status, information about employment for international students, and ways to get involved in the international student community at the University of Chicago.

Monday, September 22

  • Graduate Student Orientation for UChicago Grad

    Welcome Convocation, 10:00–11:00 a.m., Rockefeller Memorial Chapel (register)

    Informational Sessions, 1:30–4:30 p.m., Max Palevsky Cinema, Ida Noyes Hall (more information and registration coming soon!)

    Resource Fair, 2:00–4:00 p.m., Ida Noyes Hall (register)

  • Orientation Meeting for Incoming PhD Students

  • Prof. Mary Sara McPeek and Student Affairs Specialist Keisha Prowoznik will provide an overview of the PhD academic program and give a brief tour of the student office.
    Required for: all new PhD students

  • Orientation Meeting for Incoming MS Students
    11:00 am-12:00 pm
    Location: Eckhart 133
  • Prof. Mei Wang and Student Affairs Specialist Keisha Prowoznik will provide an overview of the MS academic program.  
    Required for: all new MS students
    **MS students can receive a key to the MS student office anytime during orientation week or thereafter. **
  • Library Resources Information Session
    2:00 pm—2:30 pm
    Location: Eckhart 133
    Jennifer Hart, Mathematics, Statistics, and Computer Science Librarian, will give an overview of library services and resources available to all students.
  • Second-year PhD Students Orientation Meeting
    2:30-3:00 pm
    Location: Jones 111
    Prof. Mary Sara McPeek will provide an overview of academic matters for returning PhD students.

  • IT Informational Session

    John Zekos will explain computational resources in the Department of the Statistics and across campus.
